Julio López, Joaquín Fernández, Martín Jiménez, Rafael Moreno... and so on, up to 634 small farmers from Torres, a small village in Sierra Mágina, in the heart of the olive-growing province of Jaén. In 1971, we came together as a cooperative with a common goal: to create a picual olive oil that we could be proud of, one that would reflect the quality of our mountain olive trees - giving the oil a fresh flavor that flatland trees don't have.
And so, Señorío de Camarasa was born - a gourmet and traditional oil, with a price that suits everyone's reality.
An extra-virgin picual: According to studies by Citoliva, the picual olive variety has the highest amount of antioxidants, resulting in an oil that is rich in heart-protective, artery-preserving, and cholesterol-lowering properties. Furthermore, this type of oil retains its qualities much better than oils made from any other olive variety.
Derived from centuries-old olive trees: Are you familiar with the Sierra Mágina region? It's a protected Natural Park where mountains and diverse wildlife take center stage. In this environment, the olives that give rise to Señorío de Camarasa oil grow on centuries-old trees that we, the farmers, find to be of exceptional quality.
Carefully harvested: The olive groves that give birth to our oil grow, most of the time, on slopes, cliffs, and hillsides. The mountainous character of these groves makes harvesting much more challenging, but it is this characteristic that results in the oil's softer and fruitier flavor compared to oils from flatland olives. 97% of the members of the Santa Isabel cooperative, the ones behind Señorío de Camarasa, are dedicated small farmers who have been tending to their groves for generations.
The result? A green oil, packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and with a unique flavor that turns every salad, every toast, and even the simplest steak into a delightful experience for the palate, while also contributing to a healthy diet.
